December 12 tags of 2013

My goodness how time flies!  I've had this done for a while but haven't had time to sit down and post it.
I enjoyed working with the "clearly for art" paper, need to think of some more ways to use it - very fun stuff.
Here's Tim's tag, click here for the tutorial
And here is my take
The birds were a last minute addition because my stamp and flower didn't take up as much room as Tim's so I had to fill some space.  I really like them so I'm glad I had to improvise.
Merry Christmas everyone!

November 12 tags of 2013 and October Canvas Create

Not only is today the best day of the year (my birthday!) but it was also very productive!  I just finished the November 12 tags of 2013 and my October Canvas Create projects
I love the chalk technique Tim uses on this month's tag - so fun to play with.  I didn't have the leaf stamp and die so I used a stamp I had and made it work.  I wanted to create that look of fancy writing on a chalkboard so I used a text stamp.
Here is Tim's tag - click the photo to go to the tutorial and see how to create this technique for yourself
and here is my take
The October Canvas Create from Donna Downey workshop took me a long time this month.  There were a lot of steps to prepare the background that I had to make work with what I had.  It was a challenge but I really like the end result

Have an artful day!

October 12 tags of 2013

Well it's been a rough month.  Surgery to remove my gall bladder and fiscal year end at my money job.  I feel behind on my art  but I was able to squeeze in this month's tag.  I love Halloween and Tim's black glitter is a new favorite of mine
Here is Tim's tag - click the picture for the tutorial and details
I'm not an Owl fan so I creeped it up a little, here is my take
Can I just say - aren't the distress paints yummy???  I love how fluid they are and all the effects you can achieve with them - not to mention layering them with the distress inks and stains to add more depth - Tim, I salute you for another fabulous product - you never let me down or cease to amaze me!
I've also got some Donna Downey Canvas Creates to post...
This one is not one of my favorites - I LOVE the new patina paints and the layering techniques but I couldn't get a very good grasp on my composition...I'm working on another one but with how busy I am keeping up with my other workshops I don't know when I'll get a chance to finish it so I'll post this one for now
This one I am very happy with and had so much fun doing.  I created my own stencil from the outline of a figure drawing I did and got to play with pouring medium, acrylic spray paints and painting with a pallette knife - it was very freeing amd a totally different way of working for me.  Donna even shared this one on her Facebook page which really made my day :)
Working on the October canvas create still, and an Andy Skinner workshop called "Rock my Book" once I have those finished I will post them here along with a few other Halloween projects I don't have photos of yet.  I also had a blast doing Tim's Creative Chemistry 102 and may even post some of those.
Until next time Happy Haunting everyone :)

September 12 tags of 2013

It's that time of the month again!  Let me just say, I LOVE stencils and my Golden light molding paste so this month's tag was a treat for me.  I couldn't stop at just one...
Here is Tim's take, for the tutorial click here
And here are my takes :)

Hope you enjoyed - have a wonderfully inky day!

This month's featured technique was masking.
Check out Tim's page for the details here

and here is my take
It's a fun technique but I need to work on it some more.  I think it will be cool to use with Halloween!

I guess I haven't posted my Canvas Create projects in a while so here are the ones I've missed - Donna's classes are a bargain and you learn so much - check it out!

July 12 tags of 2013

I realy enjoyed this month's tag from Tim.  I never thought to use a brayer with distress stain but it's fablous.  I think this will be great in my journal for creating a background layer.  Also, I forgot how much I love the rock candy crackle paint!  I had to order a whole new jar of it becuase I'm almost out.
Here is Tim's tag (click here for the tutorial)

Yet again, Tim is keeping me honest with my blog!  So busy creating, so little time to post!
Here is this month's 12 tags of 2012 - I love playing with the distress paint and seeing it react with the distress stains and inks.  Fun stuff, be sure to check out Tim's tutorial and try it out yourself!

Can't wait to see July's tag :)

12 tags of 2013 May

Wow, I didn't realize how long it had been since my last post - I've been too busy creating to stop and blog about it I guess!  Well, Tim's 12 tags of 2013 keep my honest ;)  The latest tag is a fabulous blend of distress stains, Tim's new rub-ons and my favorite muse, Mona.
Here's a link to the tutorial as well as the original Tim tag - hope youare feeling inspired, because this one is beautiful!

and here are my takes (you know me, I always have to do at least two!)

And, in the spirit of Mona, here is my latest journal page....

Some miscellaneous projects

Thought I'd take a quick moment to share a few pictures of things I've worked on lately but haven't had time to blog about.
Enjoy :)
Playing with Gellli Plate Printing

Pan Pastel sketch of a Tulip
and some projects I started but haven't finished
I try to do at least one creative thing every day - even if it's just a sketch or a quick note in my journal of an idea.  It's hard when I'm busy with a new job and my family but it keeps me, well...ME :)
Don't forget to take time for yourself and your inner child

April 12 Tags of 2013

I really like the new distress paints.  I was over the moon when Tim released the metallics!  I was able to grab them in time to do this month's tag and I'm glad I did...look at all the tags I created just playing around with the technique Tim shared in his tutorial
Here is a little behind  the scenes of me working out my design (like the hideous cheap after Halloween discounted tablecloth?)
And here is what I came up with...
I decided to go with a travel theme since I don't have the dragonfly image Tim used and I really need a vacation!
Craftily Yours,

Tattered Floral Challenge

I have been wanting to create a small art journal so when I saw Tim's tattered floral challenge I was inspired!
Here is the finished journal
And here are some close-ups of a few of the other flowers I made using a whole host of different materials including book text, crinoline, burlap, tissue paper, paper towels, tree bark, watercolors and even screen.  It was fun finding different things to make flowers from.  Thanks for the challenge Tim!

March 12 tags of 2013 and March Canvas Create

Been super busy with my new job - so little time to create!  But I squeezed in some me time and accomplished the March Tim tag and the March Canvas Create.
I can't wait to have more time to play with my new Distress Paints, I can already tell that I love them :)
Here's my Tim tag
I decided to put the wording at the bottom and add butterlies on pins at the top for a springy look - they make me happy!
Here's my Canvas Create for the month
I gave it to my mom to use in her spring decorations, she loved it!
Well - off to eat dinner and try to squeeze in some tattered florals, hopefully I'll meet the deadline for Tim's challenge, wish me luck!

Playing with watercolor

Ok, so the first part of my watercolor class with Mitsi B was playing with paint.
I didn't have an agenda, just put down watercolor paint and played with salt, rubbing alcohol, derwent inktense blocks, sandpaper and pencils.  I think it's a hot mess but I really had fun and loosened up.
Might use a couple of these in to make flowers in the Tim Holtz tattered florals challenge.

New Canvas Create

This month's canvas create used Pan Pastels to create a landscape with poppies.  I have been wanting to try out my Pan Pastels and this was the perfect opportunity.  They are so fun to work with and I really love the effects you can achieve.  They are also very forgiving as they can be erased before the fixative is applied.
I love Donna's whimsical landscape she created for the project, super fun to make.  The background texture is from a crumpled up paper bag applied to the canvas using gel medium.
Here's the finished project

As a bonus, here is another canvas create project from last year that I just finished up.  We stamped into light molding paste then painted over it.  Creates a great image - I love working in layers and adding texture. I made it my own by playing with the colors and leaving out the ink circles.

January 2013 Canvas Create

Ok, I'm really digging my Donna Downey canvas create workshops.  I love working with the fluid acrylics and adding texture.  This month we got to play with an old favorite of mine, plaster strips!  We used to use these when I was in school to make masks and casts of our hands.  Never thought of using them on canvas to create texture - what a great idea!  And it works!
Check it out

And here is another one I started but am stalled on.  I want to add text and stars - maybe hanging stars...still working on it in my head.  I think I may play with it in photoshop before I add anything to see if I like it.

Do something creative today and every day!
