Glazed Mosaics

Here it is, the final  technique in Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 challenge from Linda at Studio L3...I made it - all 34 techniques accomplished!  This week is glazed mosaics from page 60.
I have to say, of all the techniques I found this one the most challenging.  I started to get the hang of it but I'm not as happy with my results as I would like.  But, like they say, embrace imperfection!
So without further ado, here is my take on the glazed mosaics technique
Linda has promised one last hurrah on the challenges - we'll see what tomorrow brings, stay tuned!

Tissue Tape

Studio L3's challenge this week from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 is Tissue Tape.  Can  you believe we've done 33 challenges and are almost done with the book?  Linda Ledbetter has done a great job keeping us all inspired and on task!
That being said, I really enjoy working with Tim's tissue tape.  It is so versatile.  I've used it to make backgrounds, banners, ruffles, accents - and, oh yeah, as tape HA!  This week I decided to keep it simple to show off the deign on the season tape I have.
The sponsor of this challenge is Simon Says Stamp - a wonderful place to shop, check them out!
Happy Holidays everyone!

Paper Rosette

Challenge number 32 - only two more left and we're all the way through Tim's Compendium of Curiosities, Vol, 2!  This week, Linda at Studio L3 has challenged us to the Paper Rosette technique from page 63.
I love making these and have a ton in my stash already done.  If you haven't tried it yet, you must!  They are fun to make and there are tons of uses for them.
That being said, here's my take on the challenge.
Merry inkings to all!

Ink Palette Distress

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's brilliant Compendium of Curiosities, Vol 2 is Ink Palette Distress.  I love to paint and color so this technique is perfect for me!  The stamp I used is from Artistic Outpost and is one of my favorite retro Christmas stamp sets, isn't she cute?  I took some inspiration in covering the background from Tim's December edition of 12 tags of 2012.  I used my red distress stains and mixed them in with the tarnished brass distress stain - I could make those backgrounds all day - so fun!

Reflective Imagery

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Reflective Imagery on page 55.  Check out this cool image transfer technique!
I have to admit, with the dreaded year-end upon us (my money job is billing for a law firm), I am cheating and posting a tag I did last year for Tim's 12 tags of Christmas.
The good news is, I just put up my Christmas tree and finished my shopping!
Enjoy the season, even if you have to take a few shortcuts ;)

Texture Fade

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Texture Fades and can be found on page 64.
Embossing folders are so versatile and fun! Tim has a lot of different ways to use them.  Here is my spin on  this particular technique.  Since Thanksgiving officially starts the Christmas clock in my house, I gave mine a festive holiday theme :)
Happy Thanksgiving!

November's 12 tags of 2012

Just in time for Thanksgiving Tim has come out with a beautiful Thanksgiving tag, check out the tutorial here
I had a rough time getting the detail on the wheat, after many failed attempts, I found that I had the best results with Ranger's Ultra Fine embossing powder and Versamark for the embossing ink.  Glad I stuck with it, such a cool tag!
Here is Tim's (click for the tutorial to make your own)
Here's my version
Take a minute today to remember all the things you're thankful for.  I know at the top of my list are my husband, my parents, my two sweet dogs and, of course, Tim & Mario ;)  I could go on and on, I have been so blessed.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Reflections Stamping

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Reflections Stamping on page 65.  This is a super cool technique and I couldn't help myself, I made two!  Love Tim's mirror image stamps - I wish there were more (hint hint Tim!)
This week's challenge is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp where you can spend a fortune on all your crafting heart's desires :)

Ink Palette: Alcohol Ink

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Ink Palette: Alcohol Ink.  Find the inky details on page 52 of Tim's jam-packed with inspiration book.  I had fun playing with metal and color.  Went a little outside my comfort zone and like the results.  Can't go wrong with Dyan Reaveley's stamps, they always bring out the fun side of any project!  I really like the saying too, it's from a Wendy Vecchi stamp set and I've been told it fits me perfectly ;)
Enjoy this week's creation

Crumpled Kraft Suede

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities, vol. 2 is Crumpled Kraft Suede (page 40).  It is amazing how this technique turns ordinary Kraft paper into a soft and pliable suede-like surface.  I am in love with the result and made several background tags for future use.  Pick up a copy of Tim's book and try this out - so fun!
Stop by and see the sponsor for this challenge, the awesome Funkie Junkie Boutique and show some love with your shopping skills - I'm sure you'll find something you can't live without (I know I always do!)
Tune in next week, we only have 9 more to go!

October edition of 12 tags of 2012

I don't have the brilliant BOO diecut that Tim used so I had to get a little creative.  I made a couple different tags using this month's techniques.
Here is Tim's tag
and here are mine

Since Halloween is just around the corner, I'm working hard this weekend!  Had to try Claudine Hellmuth's gesso transfer technique for myself and I LOVED the results.  I gave it a try with the  inkjet printer I have and, to save you the trouble,  the colors bled and the image was muddy.  Definitely use a laser printer or get a laser copy for this particular technique!

Here's the video, check it out and give it a try!

Trick or Treat!

Made a little Halloween card with some new die cuts I got for the Simon Says Stamp challenge.  I really love the graveyard die cuts  for Halloween.  I used two and sandwiched the little trick or treaters in between to give it some depth.
Where's my candy?

Ink Palette: Perfect Pearls

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Ink Palette: Perfect Pearls, see page 53 for all the specs.  A big shout out to Simon Says Stamp for sponsoring the challenge, they have a wonderful jam-packed on-line store that you should definitely check out!
Perfect Pearls are a great way to color images on dark pieces.  They bring brilliant vibrant colors to life and work especially well on black backgrounds.  I couldn't think of a better subject for bright vibrant colors than a Dyan Reaveley stamp and fall leaves...
Happy Hauntings!

Alcohol Ink Resist

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Alcohol Ink Resist, details to be found on page 59.
This technique is a little tricky until you get the hang of it but once you do it is really fun to play with.  I did a little recycling and used some plastic packaging (from a Tim Holtz product of course!) as the base for the technique.  I love being able to utilize every piece of the products I get from Tim and make my money stretch and save a little piece of the earth at the same time :)  It's also fun to use these to die cut and emboss - don't throw out your packaging!
Anyway, here's my take on the technique :)
Wishing you many creative wanderings!

More spookiness and my husband's first tag!

Another little spooky tag the season and a new stamp set inspired in me :)  Love these two girls!  I thought leaving them in black and white made them a little more edgy and spooky...

I'm also proud to announce that my husband made his first tag and it is spectacularly spooky as well!
I am so proud, he did such an awesome job and he really enjoyed it.  It's all part of my evil plot to craftily take over the world.  One more non-crafter converted...Muhahahahahaah!!!

Distress Markers

This weeks Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holz's Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 is the Distress Markers technique.  The winner of the challenge gets a fab prize pack from Mario so keep your fingers crossed for me!  These markers are so much fun, once you try them you will be hooked.  They have the same reactive properties as the distress ink pads but in pen form. They are so versatile - you can really achieve a wide range of effects with them.  See page 50 of Tim's book to get an idea of what I'm talking about!
So without further ado, here is my take on this week's challenge :)

Dyan Reaveley

Dyan Reaveley was in town this weekend and I got to meet her and take a class with her at Stamper's Ink.  What can I tell you?  She is the most amazing woman - I learned so much from her just in watching her do her demo and taking her painting class.  If you get the chance, you should really take a class with her or at least meet her.  The most important things I learned from her is to not take things so seriously when creating and to let go and have fun.  The two things she said that really stuck in my head are "Because why not?" and "I can't be bothered" (with ____, fill in the blank with just about anything).  In other words - follow your gut, have fun and don't consume yourself with other people's opinions of what you're doing, just do it.
She has taught the canvas class I did to people of all ages, including 6 year olds, and she says that no one has ever been unhappy with their finished product.  Seriously anyone can do this - I love that about her.  She shared her techniques, perspective and walked us through step by step and EVERY painting in the class turned out wonderfully - it really was amazing!
Here is my finished painting.
Check out her blog, she is going to post all the paintings from class there and they are all brilliant.
I feel so blessed to have gotten to meet this incredible woman and have even made it a goal to follow in her footsteps to work with women in my area to empower them through art to have better self esteem and to express themselves creatively.
Truly an inspiring weekend!

Riveted Patchwork

Week 22 (wow!) This week's challenge for Studio L3 from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Riveted Patchwork.  Please see page 57 for details on this technique.
This week's challenge is sponsored by the wonderful Funkie Junkie - they are a great online retailer for all thing Tim - go get your funk on!
I had fun with this one.  I already used this technique for Tim's 12 tags of 2012 but couldn't resist creating another.  I kept coming up with ideas but this is the one I stuck with :)
Check out all the other entries on Studio L3 for this challenge, they are really amazing!  You never know what my inspire your next great creation!

Blended Stains

This week's Studio L3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities vol. 2 is Blended Stains.   Please see page 21 from Tim's book for the details on this cool technique.  The challenge is sponsored by one of my favorite shops, Simon Says Stamp.
I love this skull stamp Tim put out this year!!  The skull also uses the blended technique (you can't see it as well because the colors I used were more subtle) I used antique linen and picket fence to give it an aged look.  I did the teeth with picket fence stain layered on with a brush to make them pop.
Happy stamping!

Enameled Stamping

StudioL3 Challenge 20 from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 is Enameled Stamping, please turn to page 44!
I decided to keep it simple and spooky - it took a few experiments to get the effect I was looking for while still being able to see the image of the creepy kid and the word Haunted.  The best results I found were to start the layering with those two stamps and use a light colored ink for their background.  I also removed some of the embossing powder from that layer to give it a more ethereal scratchy look. For the details of the technique see Tim's book - no spoilers! ;)
Are you haunted?  I'd love to hear your tales of the spooky!

12 tags of 2012 for September

I have been waiting to do this metal technique! The first thing I did when I got his book is make this metal tag, I didn't embellish it, I was waiting for it to come up in a challenge.  I loved Tim's design so I only tweaked it a little for mine.   I have a few more backgrounds made so I plan on playing it with it more as time permits (ha!).
Here is my take
Here is Tim's tag (click for the tutorial on his blog)
And here is a little extra Tim goodness, the tutorial he did for Simon Says Stamp's Stamptember

Here is the tag I did from the tutorial
Here is Tim's
Have an inktastic day :)

12 Tags of 2012 for August

Here is Tim's tag for 12 tags of 2012 for August
Here is my take on it. I couldn't help it I did two - one for me and one for my mom!
I can't decide which I like better, I like them each for different reasons :)

Creative Core'Dinations Technique

Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge 17!

Creative Core'Dinations
Sponsored by Simon Says Stamp!
I love the Core'Dinations paper and got a little carried away experimenting!
Below is my entry in the Studio L3 challenge along with some of my other "experiments" to be used at a later time.
I call this one Danse Macabre!
I love how the ink on the Core'Dinations paper gives the skeleton such a spooky look!

Here are the rest of the pieces I played with - so much fun!

Perfect Pearls Mist Technique

This week's StudioL3 challenge from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 is the perfect pearls mist technique. Please turn to page 54 for the juicy details
I took inspiration from my friend's promise of macaroons from his upcoming trip to France for this little tag.
Jouir de Charlie!
and from a different angle to show the pearl effect a little better
Wishing you many inky dreams!

Enameled Metal

Challenge 15 from the Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2, page 56 - chosen by the lovely Linda Ledbetter at Studio L3.  She makes me less lazy every week and keeps me creating!  This is one of those weeks that I just wasn't in to it but inspiration struck at the 11th hour (almost literally) and I'm going to squeeze one in just under the wire!
This week's fun was the enameled metal technique.  Here's how I got inky with it!
Don't sell yourself sort - have faith in yourself and your worth and let your soul soar!

Guilded Kraft Glassine

This week's challenge on Studio L3 is the guilded kraft glassine technique from Tim's Compendium of Curiosities Vol 2, page 39.  Check out the book for the details but trust me, kraft glassine is very fun to work with and there are so many ways to alter it - very cool stuff.
With the triple digit heat wave and on-going drought where I am I find myself dreaming of my favorite time of year, FALL!  So I let that season inspire my tag this week.  The crackled look of the glassine after the technique is applied reminded me of leaves so I went with it...enjoy :)
If you're feeling inspired and need some supplies to create with, visit the sponsor of this week's challenge, The Funkie Junkie (I love that name!!) to get your crafty shopping fix.
PS it rained last night HOORAY!
